Marketing your business means keeping an open mind to all the possibilities. Being willing to try new things and be an innovator is what my company is all about so when I heard about a platform called Periscope I knew I had to check it out.
If you've never heard of Periscope I'll share with you briefly what it is and what it can do for your business.
In simple terms Periscope is an app you download and it enables you to stream live! I absolutely love it and my head spins with all the possibilities you can use to market your business using this app.
Rather than get into how it works which is pretty simple I want to focus on the "why." Why does your business need to be using Periscope?
When I started watching other people on Periscope it immediately made me think of YouTube on steroids.
YouTube has launched many people into the lime light but now with Persicope I believe that can happen to even more people.
How you use the platform will determine your success. If you use it to simply "sell" your products and services it's not going to work.
If however you use it as a platform to share your knowledge and expertise than it could be well worth your time to get on board.
Yesterday I watched a live broadcast of Guy Kawasaki that Peg Fitzpatrick was sharing. It was pretty cool to virtually be in a room (live) with other people and see and hear what was going on.
Being able to simply pull out your phone and broadcast means you can be literally on the beach and broadcasting live.
The other day I saw a newscaster on Persicope as he was getting ready to broadcast at a live sports event. He gave us a behind the scenes view of what was going on and although I'm not really a sports fan I found it pretty interesting.
Since video is a huge part of our business of course I had to try it out.
This is my first periscope
My approach might be a little different than other people. My goal was to give a "behind the scenes" point of view for the video.
While I was streaming live I had my husband film me. Now I have two versions. One from in front of the camera as people saw me periscoping and my "behind the scenes" view.
When using it for business as with any platform I believe you need to be real and authentic. There's also a level of professionalism that you must have.
Since the potential is there for many people to view your session you want to put your best foot forward.
Let people see who you are and what you have to offer.
You can gain followers on Persicope but the problem is how to you get them on to your email list so you can communicate with them on a regular basis.
That's why I'm putting a special page on my site for my Persicope followers.
While I am live I will ask them to go to that page and sign up for more in-depth training and tips on running a successful business.
Unlike YouTube, on Periscope you are streaming live and having that face to face real time interaction could get more people signing up for your newsletter, report etc.
In my opinion you can't make your Periscope sessions too long. Why? It is during the day and if people don't know in advance that you are going to be on air they can't plan for it. That's another reason why you want people on your list. You can send out a special announcement of the times you plan to use Periscope.
Using this platform is another way to reach your ideal audience and share with them the information they are looking for.
As my head started swimming with all kinds of ways to use Periscope I got an idea. Offer my Mentoring Monday sessions on Periscope!
What a great way to reach a large audience and really help people.
I'm going to do a post devoted to that topic alone so make sure you check back.
Are you using Periscope?
