LinkedIn: How To Develop Your Brand

Lately I’ve been going more indepth when it comes to LinkedIn.

Chances are you’ve heard that if you are in business you need to be on LinkedIn and that’s true.

One of the benefits about LinkedIn is that you can develop your personal brand.

Your brand is everything about you, your professional reputation, your online image and more.  Developing your personal brand on LinkedIn is also a way to engage with everyone.

When it comes to your personal brand ask yourself what you want people to think of when they hear your name.

What particular skills and talents do you want people to know you have?

Once you've decided how you'd like to be known, such as "The Go-to Person for Networking" or as the "Online Marketing Coach" etc. then you need to formulate a way to share that with the world.

Regardless of how what you will share about your personal brand, it's important to use LinkedIn in the right way.

In my second book: The Secret Equation To Attracting More Clients: Marketing+ P Factor + Video=$$$$ I talk about using your unique personality.

Using that personality is important when on LinkedIn or any other social networking site.  You need to be yourself.  It’s the best way to develop your brand.  As you build your personal brand be authentic.  I know that might sound cliché but it’s very easy to look at someone else in your industry and think you need to act and be like them.  You don’t.  It’s your unique personality that will draw people to you.

When building your personal brand on LinkedIn try to choose a unique URL.   Most people use their name but if you’re like me you can’t because it’s already taken.  That’s when you need to get creative.

Initially LinkedIn had “influencers” that were able to post articles.  It was hard to get that statis.  Now LinkedIn has changed that and is allowing everyone to publish articles which is great!

Are you using this feature?  If not you should be.

You will get a greater reach posting your articles and that will hopefully lead to building your online business community.

Start looking for articles you like on LinkedIn and join in the conversation.

Remember establishing a personal brand takes time, consistency, and true knowledge of your niche.

But, LinkedIn.com is a fast way to be noticed if you use it regularly and use it honestly.

Are you active on LinkedIn?

You are absolutely right about needing a presence on LinkedIn if you wish to build a personal brand amongst professional circles. I have also found that my posts get read on LinkedIn many times more when I directly publish on LinkedIn. You also need to devote some time to the platform to build a meaningful network

I do the LINKEDIN thing but I am far more active on other social media. It's obnoxious to have to take care of ALL of the social media out there, ha! But I do know some is far more important than OTHERS!

I've yet to join LinkedIn. It seems that for my industry (YA publishing) it is lower down the line for social media channels. But these are good tips for brand building on other platforms as well. Thanks :)

I am on Linked In. I don't feel that I use it (or G+) to the fullest potential. Twitter and Facebook I get, and other people get. But I think many authors, like myself, are unclear on how this social network could best benefit writers.

I'm actually very surprised that your blog doesn't list any social media follow options for you. Not even Linked In, which you've written about.
